Incomplete Design is a collection of (99/99) obtainable NFT and a growing set of rare (1/1) NFTs.

It's a project that shall never be completed. Exploiting mutable NFT as an ever-evolving canvas. Instead of a roadmap, the project goes on a cycle that can go indefinitely.

Incomplete Design is inspired by a 2018 Murat Pak article. From their designer perspective, art and design are two different opposites in a creative context, defined by their opposing motivation.

Driven by this motive, the project is created as a medium to share new works, even ones still in progress or half-baked. While most project serves a completed work and commit to an image embedded in the metadata, Incomplete Design does the opposite by being constantly updated.

But why?

"Public attention and adoption to NFT came faster than I expected, and I feel like a lot of them failed to put a good light on this new medium. Being focused on the artistic side of things, I have failed to design my works better to fit this new group of audiences. This forces me to waste my energy contemplating rather than creating." ◈

At most ninety-nine editions of the NFT will be made available for purchase during the initiation phase. Each token may be obtained for 0.1 $ETH. There is no limit to how many tokens one can collect.

The initiation begins on 22 February 2022.

This multi-edition NFT is special because it possesses the ability to mutate. It can be updated, and it will be updated — all without requiring permission from the token owner(s).

Every update will be recorded on the blockchain.

With each update, the previous artwork will leave the mutable NFT for good. It will then be rebirthed as the new 1/1 edition NFT and airdropped to one random owner of the mutable NFT. See the drop mechanism.

This project goes on a cycle of mutation and rebirth. One cycle of Incomplete Design consists of 99 mutations and rebirths. At any given moment, the mutable NFT will always have the latest artwork, while the single-edition NFTs exist to immortalize all of the previous states.

◈ Every update of the mutable NFT is recorded as a transaction in the blockchain. Snapshot of Incomplete Design owners is taken on the same block as the update transaction.

◈ The block hash, timestamp, and the first transaction hash of the block are used as seeds to generate a random number with this formula:

keccak256( blockHash + blockTimestamp + transactionHash )

◈ The snapshot list is sorted ascending by the address, with addresses holding more than one edition repeated consecutively. An address is selected by its position in the list, using the number produced by the formula above. (modulo)

◈ Once an address received a rebirthed NFT, it will no longer be included in the list until the end of the current cycle.

i.e. an address may receive the rebirthed NFT once in every cycle. When the next cycle starts, such an address will be eligible to be included in the snapshot list again.

While holding more than one Incomplete Design does not grant an address more than one rare NFT in a single cycle, the chance of receiving an airdrop is still higher than holding just one.
